Every day AI tools invade our visual, auditory and creative world and, consequently, music too. On social media, we can see how it affects our daily lives.
It can be a great source of inspiration but, at the same time, it can create insecurities and doubts about the end of many careers in many fields. There are countless platforms that through artificial intelligence generate content for musicians, complete tracks, compositions, and arrangements with professional sound and quality.
AI in music production and composition
According to El Comercio newspaper (2023), singer Bad Bunny once expressed his dissatisfaction with a song that went viral on social media and was created using Artificial Intelligence. He demonstrated his upset because many of his fans preferred this AI-created song over other productions by the artist. This suggests that AI-generates tracks that could, in some cases, surpass the compositions that are created organically or traditionally. For this reason, it's believed that AI tools could become an obstacle for many artists, producers, and composers.
The song Heart on My Sleeve, for example, created in 2023 by the user Ghostwriter on TikTok, used the voices of Drake and The Weeknd. The track caused controversy because the audience loved it, and a dispute arose over the proper rights for using both artists’ voices. It was even speculated that the song could be nominated for the Grammys. However, many producers and composers today argue that what is important is using available AI tools wisely, and it is important to leverage them to optimize time and resources. Platforms like Flow GPT, Suno, Tidal, and others are creating musical compositions. This allows us to observe, analyze, and determine how much we will rely on these platforms for the creation of musical projects.
It will depend on the producer and creator whether they adapt them according to their workflow or not.
