Melodrama by Angelina Mango was recently released.
As always, Angelina managed to fully communicate the message behind this energetic piece which at the same time deeply analyzes her emotions and personal experiences.
Angelina Mango and her Melodrama
The song begins by describing a sense of oppression, so much so that the singer feels a lump in her throat. There are multiple references to Basilicata, her homeland, and Lagonegro, where she grew up and took her first steps in music. Angelina feels stuck and trapped in time, in a moment when anxiety suffocates her and her skin can't breathe, but it is precisely here that the chorus arrives.
I still feel a lump in my throat
My homeland won't let go of me
Maybe I should go back to school
To fix my broken voice
In the chorus the singer accepts her imperfections and her nature as a drama queen, something that makes her unique and characterizes her personal identity. She desires a melodramatic life, a gypsy life full of emotions and freedom, far from social conventions.
Love don't be sad, you knew I was a bit messed up
Sorry if I give you the worst of me, it'll pass later
God doesn't see us, but you make me calm
And I'll follow you where the sea clashes with the Southern wind
In "Melodrama," some memories of the past, pain, and nostalgia are also addressed. Angelina talks about the Netherlands as a place she would have liked to go to understand herself and fix the chaos around her. Nevertheless, she decided not to and to stay with her loved one: it is the present she decides to focus on, reiterating the desire for a life that is less dramatic but always full of adventure and authenticity.
Angelina Mango in "Melodrama" talks about identity, the bond with one's roots and with the people who love us, the struggle against insecurities, and the desire to live life to the fullest.
