Nashville-based independent Korean-American singer-songwriter Calista Kweon has just released her third single, Delay, that we had the chance to hear before its release.
In her music Calista mixes jazz, alternative and indie: this happens with Delay as well.
Delay: Calista Kweon's new single
Delay was inspired by a transformative trip to San Francisco in October 2023. “I was in a dark place before that trip” Calista told us. “San Francisco felt like a spiritual awakening, I felt spiritually awoken from the headspace I was previously in. I had never been to the West Coast and every turn felt like being in a scene out of a film I'd seen once before only in my dreams. The trip passed so quickly before my eyes that I felt like I barely absorbed any aspect of what I was experiencing".
Delay is about that detachment from meaningful moments and the wish to delay time, even if just for a brief moment. With this song, Calista Kweon communicates the feeling of wanting to pause or delay time to fully take in fleeting moments. This introspective track unites storytelling with raw emotion. The vivid imagery of "jumping coastlines" and "fog so dense that it enclosed me" describes the feeling of being lost in time and space. The soft and dreamlike melody complements the lyrics and forms a trck that is both introspective and radiofriendly. Calista's delicate yet soulful vocals definitely match the song's theme and sounds.
