Noah Cyrus is back with her new single Don’t Put It All On Me, a collaboration with Fleet Foxes.
It's a ballad that clearly speaks about her family story. The song was co-written with her brother Braison Cyrus.
Don’t Put It All On Me, the new single by Noah Cyrus
Noah explained that Don’t Put It All On Me comes from her role as an observer within her family: "Braison wrote about how I often carry this weight on my shoulders", she said. "Music for me is a way to connect with the past while being present in the moment. That’s what I wanted to convey with these new songs", Noah explained about her way of making music and communicating her emotions.
The song arrives after a period where the Cyrus family had to deal with personal changes and issues that led to what was publicly perceived as a "split" within the family. Another of Noah’s brothers, Trace, had written an Instagram post directed at their father Billy Ray, saying: "Noah has always wanted you in her life, and you’ve never been there. She’s your girl. She deserves better".
Don’t Put It All On Me explains all this "drama" from Noah’s perspective in such a delicate way that it allows us to understand her feelings without invading her family's privacy. After all, Noah is always original: if you listen to her songs without knowing they’re hers, you recognize her instantly.
You couldn’t be honest with me
But I know you tried to
But beauty will blind you
Don’t put it all on me
