New York-based rlyblonde has partnered with producer Robbie Guariglia in Dumb Blonde, a pop-rock song about overcoming obstacles. Thanks to her self-directed music video, the singer is creating a visual universe of her own.

As our readers may know, we cover the works of all kinds of people related to the music industry: singers, producers, managers and many more. The protagonist of today’s entry is a multidisciplinary artist who began her career as a photographer, videographer and creative director in New York.

Carina Allen, a.k.a. rlyblonde, released her debut EP, Fantasy, in 2023 after years of working for other musical acts in Brooklyn. Her first body of work garnered her a small fanbase, which made her release two singles, Your Angel and Girl in your story. After that she started working with Robbie Guariglia, producer for bands such as the Goo Goo Dolls or The Veronicas. The singer has stated working with Guariglia has helped her take her sound a step further, thanks to his ability translate the ideas in rlyblonde’s mind to her music.

Dumb Blonde is the result of this joint effort: a fun yet confessional pop-rock song, whose instrumental is reminiscent of the soundtracks from early 2000s chick-flicks. Rlyblonde sings about common monologue in the mind of any artist which is the feeling that everything she’s built can disappear at any moment. The singer tries to diminish her feelings and just have fun with quotes such as “but I got a feeling haunting me lately / Cover it up getting drunk being crazy / When it all blows up, who's gonna save me? / Hands in the air I'm just a dumb blonde baby”.

The single is accompanied by a music video directed by the singer through her own production company, HOT CREATIVE. Considering her artistic background, it’s only natural that she wants to be in charge of every part of her creative projects. As she’s explained, her songs and her visuals go hand in hand, creating a cohesive artistic universe. In the music video she’s getting prepared for a big show, wearing a pink outfit à la Elle Woods, while an unknown repairman is getting prepared to capture and kill her. In the end, she manages to escape thanks to her pink acrylic nails.
