Sanremo 2024: we're a country of exhausted people

Disclaimer: this article might look very random if you don't know Italian and don't watch the festival but, trust us, it makes sens for us exhausted!

sanremo 2024 siamo un paese di esauriti

The phrase most associated online with the Sanremo Festival 2024 (the most followed Italian music show) is "we're a country of exhausted people". This could be because we made John Travolta dance The Qua Qua Dance and then he didn't sign the release form, because Stash's selfie went viral, because Orietta Berti sang with La Sad or because Mahmood and Mengoni's video is everywhere, the choices are plenty.

One thing is certain: in recent years, Generation Z has increasingly approached Sanremo also thanks also to fantasanremo, giving the Festival a dose of irony and memes that has made it more engaging.

The fact that we (Italy) are a country of exhausted people could refer to both the fun provided by the program, guests, hosts, participants, and the quantity of memes that comes from them, as well as the way we as viewers watch it. In fact, we're the only people in the world who decide autonomously, without being forced, to watch a minimum of six hours of television every night for a week until late at night.

These six hours exclude several things including pre and post-Festival, fantasanremo livestreams, press conferences, and all the programs surrounding it. Nevertheless, it's not easy to provide television content that elicits laughter and has the right dose of trash without appearing banal or repetitive, while always keeping music and art at the center of attention.

The perfect mix for a successful Sanremo is the quality of the music, the skills of the host, and the irony of the audience. We can say that this is definitely happening and that, just like the first two nights, the others will also be full of surprises.

So let's grab our slippers and blanket: tonight I'm not going out, there's Sanremo!

We leave you with a question: what would happen if the boy didn't meet the girl?
